Spooky Consumer Alert:
The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning for consumers, when shopping for Halloween merchandise. Seasonal brick and mortar stores and web sites, hawking Halloween costumes and accessories may offer great deals. With many stores offering last-minute deals and bargains, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

The BBB advises consumers to research the company, and find out how long it has been in operation. Also, being aware of the refund policy and reading the terms and conditions of the store are important when purchasing seasonal merchandise. In addition, the Bureau advises consumers to make purchases with a credit card. In the case of any issues with the purchase, it will be easier to dispute charges with the credit card company.

Ghoulish Candy Recall Alert:
Nestle recalled its fun size bags of Raisinets, citing allergy concerns. The nationwide recall applies to the 10 ounce bags, which may pose a risk to children and adults who are allergic to peanuts. The Raisinets may contain peanuts, but the labels do not cite them as an ingredient.

In addition, Mega Pop lollipops have also been recalled. The product may contain traces of foreign particles. While no health risks have yet been cited, the lollipops have been pulled off of shelves throughout the country. The recall applies to 14 and 28 ounce size bags of the sweet pops.

Harrowing Safety Goodies:
Unlike the many Halloween eves of yesteryear, technology has come a long way. For some parents of young trick-or-treaters, this may offer an additional means of surveillance. Tracking and GPS-enabled devices for youngsters have become popular. Some devices, come with a hefty price tag that could have guardians howling. At the same time, phone apps for the iPhone and Android may provide a more affordable means of surveilling local neighborhoods.

While no amount of technology can be a substitute for actual supervision, plain common sense and the help of a mobile device could make the overall Halloween experience a safer one.
