"Most Wanted" Holiday Items

The holidays are just around the corner. As October kicks off with a crisp start, retailers are gearing up for the upcoming season. Adults and children alike, can feast upon some of the offerings and get a head start on their shopping.

There are plenty of hot items that are worth considering. For adults, LCD TV prices are forecast to decline in the coming months. This will be welcome news for consumers who are in the market for a brand new flat-screen TV.

According to market research firm DisplaySearch, the price point on LCD TVs are expected to drop. As we head into the final quarter of 2010, prices are forecast to decline by over 10% in comparison to last year.

Not surprisingly, portable electronic gadgets will also top the shopping list for many consumers. Touch-screen tablet computers, smartphones and electronic readers will also to be in high demand. Many consumer electronics retailers will be utilizing promotions to help lift sales, so keep your eyes peeled for limited deals.

Now moving on to the more playful side of shopping, some toys that are expected to top the wish list for children include "Squinkies," Sing-a-ma-jigs," and "Zoobles." The singing Justin Bieber doll might illicit a shrill response from some parents, but will be welcomed with open arms from many a young fan.

Earlier this week, the 'Time to Play 2010 Holiday Showcase' was held in New York City. The industry event revealed an interesting array of items for every budget. It is apparent that toy companies are being sensitive to consumers seeking bargains. Some affordable items from the 'Time to Play' toy list, include:

- Sing-a-ma-jigs: Singing plush dolls that sing, talk and harmonize - when you push their tummies. (Mattel, Retail Price: $12.99)
- Squinkies: Collectible items that are packaged in a ball, and resemble vending machine toys. (Blip Toys, Retail Price: $6.99)
- Zoobles: Small balls that open up into plastic animals when place on magnetized "happitat" platforms. (Spin Master, Retail Price: $4.99 +)
- Monster High Dolls: A line of dolls based on the high school Monster Doll brand. (Mattel, Retail Price: $16.99)

It may seem early to start thinking about the holidays, but with high demand for some of these goodies, it makes sense to plan ahead.
